Heat-shrinkable materials are composed of an external backing that is made of cross-linked polyolefin and is extruded, and an internal adhesive that is made of thermoplastic materials. These materials undergo shrinkage upon heating, which instils a level of circumferential compression in the coating. This compression supplements the bonding of the sleeve to the pipe joint surfaces.
Heat-shrinkable sleeves are among the toughest filed-applied coating systems that are currently available. The coating system is comprised of a solvent-free, high-performance epoxy, an adhesive base copolymer, and modified cross-linked polyethylene. Its design is intended to replicate the structure and performance of mil-applied three-layer PE coatings. Furthermore, the coatings are compatible with all commonly used pipe coatings, including polyethylene, coal tar enamel, and fusion-bonded epoxy.
This adhesive is truly excellent and highly multi-functional. It is capable of enabling lower installation temperatures in comparison to other similar products. Additionally, it can bond to a range of materials including 3LPE, DFBE, FBE, and CTE.
Another great feature of this adhesive is its full resistance to shear forces that are induced by soil as well as thermal movements, which makes it a perfect choice for a range of applications.
The adhesive is also superior when it comes to cathodic disbondment and resistance to hot water immersion and thermal ageing. Because of these features, it offers the ultimate barrier against corrosion and provides long-term protection.
Lastly, this product is a great choice due to its ability to help reduce both time and cost. By enabling lower pre-heat temperatures and providing the option for wet epoxy primer application, this adhesive can lead to significant savings without sacrificing quality.

The two components of the epoxy primer should be mixed carefully to ensure proper mixing before application. It is recommended to apply the primer to a minimum thickness of 150 µm, covering at least 10 mm of adjacent coating. It is important to avoid mixing more primer than what can be applied during the pot life.
While the epoxy is still wet, apply the sleeve after heating the adhesive. After the sleeve is wrapped, apply the closure patch after heating it. Finally, the entire sleeve should be heat-shrunk to fit snugly around the joint.
Post heating is used to soften the sleeve and remove any trapped air.
